A collaborative work with Cherie Winter

The majority of the excess heat generated by the last 250 or so years of fossil fuel emissions is absorbed by the Earth's oceans. When coral is subjected to extreme localised temperature increases, it enters a survival phase and engages a kind of sunscreen layer in an effort to protect itself from the warmer than usual water (above around 32 degrees celsius).

The works in Stratum prompt thought around the geologic and material as being partners in creativity, becoming storytelling matter that acts as both a marker for time / action, and as a metaphor that allows us to reflect on how we humans relate to and live on the earth.
